Lost cause....

Lost cause....

I'm afraid we all are (human beings) a lost cause destined to destroy everything within our realm of existence. I want to evolve into something different...something better! Evolution sucks in that is so FREAKING slow....

Given my current location in Afghanistan I'm without any kind of TV. I utilize my laptop and the thousands of movies, shows and documentaries burned onto a 2TB and 1TB hard drive as my entertainment during down time. I usually spend about an hour or two a night before I go to bed watching something. I've really gotten into the AMC series "Breaking Bad" - what a great TV show! I never want this show to end I love it so! I finished all three seasons a few nights ago.

The other day I had a rare break in the daylight hours so I went to my quarters and started watching a Discovery series I think is titled "Mother Earth". It is a series that basically documents every environment on earth explaining everything about it as far as Mother Nature goes. It's a really neat show and I enjoy it. While watching it, though, I couldn't help but notice something...that everything in Mother Nature is at war with something every second of every day!

I watched a tiny fox steal baby chicks from birds eating them alive, a pack of lions ambushing and toppling a huge elephant and then eating it alive. I was really surprised to observe a pack of Chimps act just like man and raid another camp of Chimps taking a child Chimp hostage and then eating it alive...well, it probably died quick but the baby Chimp was cannibalized. I watched alligators eating alive deer like creatures, a weird and fascinating type of fungus eating insects from the inside out, alive, then growing from their dead carcasses. I even saw plants eating things alive!

I was finally relieved to see the segment on oceans and underwater sea life. There I saw a hundred sea snakes sneak up and ambush small fish eating them alive, countless types of fish eating smaller fish alive - it was never ending! Everywhere on the face of this earth, war is raging in some shape, fashion and or form! and just when I thought all hope was lost, the world's smallest sea horses, Pigmy Seahorses, were shown swimming amongst beautiful coral and colorful plant life....

"FINALLY!" I thought to myself! Finally something that isn't going to be going to war with each other! Then it happened...the two sea horses, no bigger than a fingernail start head butting. I was like, WHAT THE FUCK! These tiny, beautiful creatures waged war with their heads, head butting each other until the other fell back with the winner claiming it's prize - newly acquired territory! Hahahaha! I just sat there staring at my 16" wide angle laptop screen shaking my head ... it was confirmed! Everything is at war every day of every week of every month of every year...and so it will be till us all, this entire place we call our home, simply implodes.

There has been a recent rise in Afghan families being blown to pieces needlessly nearly every day. A few days ago this van with a family hit a road side bomb killing nearly everyone; amputations, traumatic head wounds were everywhere! Three little boys were killed while herding their sheep in a field after stepping on a landmine. The violence is never ending…

Put all this I have just written into the context of the entire world and instead of us humans eating each other alive…since time began, we have been eating each other’s souls alive! A part of me wants to join the violence and the eating alive of everything by starting to kill, assassinate and murder those of us who need these acts of vengeance to fall upon them. Yet another part of me wants to simply fade away…slipping slowly, unseen into the shadows of my own world to carve out a peaceful existence, where at least I don’t have to be at war eating everything alive…

Us humans are no different than any creature on the face of this earth! We really, truly are, ALL OF US, a lost cause! :(

Learning to Swim

Hannah Sullivan is not looking to have her beliefs challenged. She is not looking to fall in love, either. Her only ambition, when she and her daughter, Lily, take their first summer trip to New Hampshire’s Squam Lake, is a restful, scenic vacation. But she will soon learn that the world has another offering. Within minutes of their arrival that first summer, they meet a man named Aidan Heron. His is a gift that will teach them both, with an easy humor and a nearly fearless penchant for adventure, that life has more to offer than they'd ever understood. Shaped by tragedy in her youth, Hannah has learned to live a timid, closed life. And without realizing it, she has taught her daughter to do the same. But Aidan, a man who has experienced his own tragedy and responded very differently, will show them both a new way. Through ten years of shared summer vacations, Hannah will experience enthrallment, love and heartache. She will be challenged and will learn to challenge herself. And in the course of meeting these challenges, she will learn how to truly live.
